I imagine most people as myself came to the IT teaser trailer with huge hype and greatly anticipated one of the Stephen King's greatest antagonists - the demon clown Pennywise. I had mixed feeling whether or not the trailer would ruin my expectations, but it did not fail to deliver one of greatest modern horror experiences yet.
The movie is about group of kids who are part of the so called "Losers Club" trying to stop the demonic clown from kidnapping any more kids from their city. They go on about this pursuit of 'IT' without caution and get in trouble which kicks in the tension, the feeling of the movie and starts the story.
I have to admit, this movie was pretty well made. The level of details put in this movie is incredible, along with great cinematography and a horror story mixed with a little bit of humor in it. This also has to be the first time in a while I've seen kids put up a great act. Honestly, I was surprised at how well they all performed their roles and the amount of enthusiasm that was put into their roles was mesmerizing. The Pennywise was just. perfect! No other words can be used to describe how well Bill Skarsgard played as Pennywise. I love it.
Now, although this is a great movie, I do have few issues with it. There is such thing as "too many" characters. I feel like there was too many characters and it was hard to really give any of them a developed background we can latch on to when something goes wrong with them. Many times in the movie, few kids got hurt, but because I couldn't even remember their names, I couldn't really feel bad for them, or relate in any way. Another problem is that the movie had a bit too many jump scares. I mean, we're talking a lot of jumpscares of which 80% were pretty predictable and not many of them managed to keep the tension that was suppose to go upwards. There were quite a few clichés which really didn't bother me as much, but it also felt like they weren't as mandatory. For example, there was the scary old house, the kid tripping over stuff while running in danger, kids running towards and not away from the danger and the dead end cliché. The clichés don't really contribute to the tension and can be swapped for much better ways of keeping the tension.
The major plot hole with this movie is the lack of interest by every person in town with what's going on. Is there no police on the "missing kids" case? Did they find the missing kids in the end? What happened to the rest of the floating kids? How did the old lady not hear George scream? Those were only few questions this movie failed to answer.
Although this movie has a great story, pretty good execution, acting, the feel and cinematography, I'm giving it a 7/10, mostly because I have hard time accepting mistakes. I still really enjoyed the movie nonetheless, but you can feel free to disagree about the review.
